Welcome to our farm! To start off, you might be wondering how we came up with the name Highland Farm. No, we don’t live in the Highlands (although that would be so cool!). We live on a small farm in West Central Indiana. This farm has been in my husband’s family for decades. Right at the entrance to our farm sits a large orange and white barn that says “Highland Farm” right on the front of it. I know, not very creative or exciting. I don’t know where the original name came from, but we have taken it and run with it! It has been a fun experience as a family figuring out exactly what living on Highland Farm means to us. Right now it means love, family, and spending time in God’s creation. We have been so blessed to live on the family farm, and we always make an effort to honor our family who came before us and created this beautiful homestead.

My husband and I are fairly new to the homesteading lifestyle. We have been married for 5 and a half years and have been slowly growing our own homestead. My husband is a 5th generation farmer and currently works with his dad (and occasionally our almost-2-year-old son) raising corn, soybeans, and cattle. This is my husband’s passion, and I am honored to have the opportunity to learn and grow alongside him. I work as a physician assistant, and my passion is learning and practicing more holistic living. While I have been trained in Western Medicine, I believe there is a huge role that herbs, plants, and animal products can play in improving our health and curing maladies.
This spring we expanded our homestead to include 20 chickens. We also routinely plant a garden in our backyard that we eat off of all summer! We as a family are excited for this year as we learn to become chicken farmers and learn to can and preserve more of our own homegrown food. While our goal is not to be entirely self-sufficient, we do believe that a healthy happy lifestyle starts right here on the farm. We are so excited that you are here to follow along as we learn and grow our farm and family!
